Current Trends and Challenges for Forest-Based Sector: Carbon Neutrality and Bioeconomy
Abstract (EN)
The paper discusses the potential use of stumpwood, as an energy feedstock. Stumpwood is an underutilized and undervalued part of tree biomass. It is now being explored as a potential source of raw material for the Renewable Energy Sources (RES) sector. In Poland, it is possible to harvest pine stumpwood, and the potential of this raw material is estimated at about half a million cubic meters per year. This is an important area for forestry development. In the study, based on literature
and own observations (case study), a pilot research was designed. The purpose of this research is to preliminarily identify the possibility of harvesting pine stumpwood in the Notecka Forests area in western Poland.
