Abstract (EN)
This publication constitutes an attempt of a comprehensive view on the designing activities in the Polish territories of a major landscape architect of the 19th century working in Europe, i.e. Peter Joseph Lenné (1789-1866).
Numerous garden designs, at present located in the territory of Poland, are commonly attributed to this landscape designer, although in many cases no direct evidence has been found to date.
The book presents general principles governing garden composition design in the first half of the 19th century together with the major designers of the era in the main planning centres in Europe and in Poland. It also discusses the life of Peter Joseph Lenné, his career and directions of his widely understood planning activities. The planning technique of this architect is analyzed in detail, indicating the most characteristic features of his work.
The author verified information concerning individual garden objects attributed to Lenné, located in Poland. Based on original plans or their copies, which she was able to find in Germany, the author determined a list of garden designs confirming the participation of Lenné in their creation or even proving he was the author of entire designs. These objects, together with basic information, were included in the chapter Katalog za³o¿eñ ogrodowych P. J. Lennégo [The catalogue of garden designs of P. J. Lenné]. The other objects were presented in a separate list. Further studies might explain the mystery surrounding the author of their designs; the hypothesis that the designer was Lenné might be finally confirmed or this thesis will be definitely rejected.
It is important that — as it was stated in the conclusions summing up this publication -the interest of both these types of garden designs has not come too late, when there will be nothing left to admire and protect, since the present condition of many of these objects is dramatic, despite the fact that most of them are registered historical monuments.
