Monograph title
Internet of Things in the Food Industry. Challenges and Opportunities for the Internet of Food Things
Abstract (EN)
Technological development is a crucial factor that determines economic growth. Although the food sector has been historically slower in implementing modern solutions compared to other industries, technological changes have greatly influenced its development. With the current level of technological progress, many processes that previously required human labour in the food sector can now be automatized. Therefore, the implementation of modern solutions in the food sector is now faster than ever before. Furthermore, the implementation of these modern solutions results in the collection of large amounts of data, which can be used to better understand the processes taking place in the food sector and accelerate its further development. This chapter will present the concept of the Internet of Food, which is rooted in the concept of the Internet of Things but focuses on the implementation of smart solutions in the food sector. We will present key challenges for the food system and discuss how technological development can address them. In the next section, we will introduce the Internet of Food concept, its scope, and possible actions that can encourage its development. The last part of the chapter will present the application of modern technologies to the food sector.
