Urban forests and forestry in Poland pose a challenge in terms of legal and social aspects. The problem lies in the lack of legal and organisational solutions and inadequate guidelines for this group of forests. The problematic issue is a diverse structure of urban and suburban forest ownership, which does not allow for common and complex analysis. Climate change can weaken forest functions in the ecosystem, which may require changing how forests are managed, and the public is made aware of the changes. The lack of green spaces for the inhabitants of new housing estates leads to increased social pressure concerning the for
ests growing within the borders of towns, cities, and their vicinity. While everyone is aware of environmental protection, the expectations towards forests differ depending on professional and social groups. Forest managers should meet all the expectations of city dwellers unwilling to participate in the costs or to contribute to achieving a common goal. Unfortunately, forest education is aimed at issues connected with environmental protection without considering the goals and rules of the forest economy.
